'Let's Get Moving' was an educational resource for schools statewide, and part integral campaign for the 'Get Active Queensland' initiative for the Queensland Government in 2006. It was designed as a practical activity book for teachers to encourage children to get active in Queensland schools.
JSA Design Studio was a leading preferred providers for state government and council design services.
The importance of this project retained as a folio case study is due to the complex challenges encountered in the design process and illustrates how we navigated our way to a satisfactory outcome to proved the client with a practical work book that was durable and engaging for young people and educators respectfully.
The content was provided and managed through the Department of Sport and Recreation, external copywriters and studio Account managers. With so much information to present and with younger readers, we designed the activity book with colour coded tabs to access each chapter easily for quick reference.
The work book also contained an activity mat, which we designed to be printed on 'Oppo' a plastic based stock, durable yet soft and flexible to fold and store in a custom designed pocket in the back of the activity book. This made it tough enough for young feet to jump on and follow the activity.
Along with the mat, we designed activity cards to use in conjunction with the mat to prompt activities for each round. These cards were printed on durable stock with a celoglaze to protect them, perforated to be easily cut to individual cards and plastic slips were included for card storage in the spiro-bound finished book.
Illustrations were commissioned by Brisbane Illustrator, Sue Loveday, with the exception of some additional, on-the-go requirements that were easily managed in-house by myself.
